Stories help people connect with the ones they love. They help connect with life. Amidst the stress and hectic pace, it's easy to allow the magic of the little things to slip past. Then we blink, and they are gone. Babies turn into children; children turn into teens; teens become brides and grooms who start families of their own.
We are left with only our memories, and eventually, they fade.
But memories can also be preserved.
I'm a PhotoBiographer. I capture stories at the milestones of life. My work is different because I'm dedicated to transcending the superficial. I tell The Whole Story. My approach always starts with learning the story. Then, I create images that translate the essence of the story into something rich with meaning. Genuine emotion is the sauce. Creativity is the spice.
Not long ago, the importance of my work was brought home to me by a mother who watched her son battle cancer before age thirty. Twice. Like few others, she understood the transient nature of life, and consequently, the importance of great photography in helping us remember. After she saw the images from the session with her son, alive and healthy once again, she wrote:
"Dear Randall, with all my heart, I thank you for capturing a part of my son that touches my soul. There was a time in the years past when I wouldn't believe that was possible."
When I read these heartfelt words, I remember thinking that in every person and in every relationship, there's magic. My job is to capture it.
